Lucia
Fernandez-Fisher is one of the Family Resource Specialists for Hillsborough
County. She and her husband are the proud parents of Raine who is
five years old. Raine was born with Down syndrome and is a recent
graduate of Early Steps.
Lucia provides individual support for parents and families who have
children with special needs and searches for information of interest
for those families. Lucia speaks, reads and writes both in English
and Spanish. She also facilitates the creation of parent support
groups because it’s deep benefit to families. She is available when
Spanish-speaking families are in need of a translator.
In order to distribute Early Steps information more practically to
families, Lucia writes the Newsletter “At the Right Time” directed
to parents, service providers and local Early Steps staff. This
publication comes out quarterly and is sponsored by Infants and
Young Children of West Central Florida. Every other edition is
provided in Spanish.
Lucia is a valuable resource for families served through the local
Early Steps and serves as a community link to support
family-centered efforts and activities within the local Early
Steps. She is a great advocate for families.
Lucia can be reached by calling IYC at (813) 375-3980, ext. 30
or (813) 765-5302.
Family Resource Specialists are first and foremost . . .
parents! We are very aware of the pressures and sacrifices parents
go through to raise children. We offer our services as a
sounding board for parents concerns relating to their own family
situations.
A Family Resource Specialist is not a medical professional.
We may have knowledge of different medical conditions and medical
terms, but we don't evaluate, diagnose or prescribe treatments for
children. We can help families and children find support.
Parent Liaison Project of School District of
Hillsborough County
Parent liaisons work
to ensure smooth transitions between early intervention and school
services, and provide information and support to families of children
enrolled in special education programs. For information
